The majority of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's 104 masses are parodies, and the 4-part Missa Veni sponsa Christi is based on his own motet, which is itself based on the Gregorian chant it introduces. Orlando di Lasso composed the mass Missa super Bell Amfitrit altera in an overtly Venetian style. Gregorio Allegri's Miserere, which was sung by the papal choir to end the Tenebrae service, was composed in 1638.

Divinorum operum

The purpose of this programme is to present Hildegard through her music, through the collection of Symphonia harmoniae caelestium revelationum, starting with her prophetic charisma, the focal point of which is the Liber divinorum operum, the saint's last work, subdivided into ten visions, starting with a prologue and ending with and epilogue. CD-ROM includes sung texts and Italian translations.

Today Antonio Caldara, 1671-1736, is not a name many would recognize let alone ragard as one of the great composers of the Baroque, yet in his own lifetime he was held in high esteem by composers a.o. Here Philippe Jaroussky revives a number of forgotten works by Caldara. All the arias come from his operas, such as L´Olimpiade, Demafoonte, La clemenza di Tito, Temistocle, with librettos by Metastasio, whose texts defined the opera seria genre.
