This CD consists of 6 Medleys and the bonus track Hawaiian War Chant sung by the great Ella Fitzgerald and music by Benny Carter's Magnificent Seven. In 3 sessions they recorded songs such as No Regrets, Just Friends, Try A Little Tenderness, Taking A Chance On Love, It's A Wonderful World, On Green Dolphin Street, Spring Is Here, Candy, Rain, Deep Purple a.o.

During his 6 years at Riverside, Thelonious Monk recorded a wide variety of settings, but this is his only use of the trumpet-tenor saxophone-rhythm lineup that was the most common recording-studio format of the post-bop era.

The tenor sax heard here was Cohn's major instrument but he worked with other reeds as well. For this 1982 set, Al Cohn was joined by Dan Wall on piano, Neal Starkey on bass, and Brian Childers on drums.

“I Got the Blues”—Eddie’s Jefferson’s vocalese version of Lester Young’s “Lester Leaps In”—Slim Gaillard’s “Fat Foot Floogie,” Emmit Slay’s “Trio Male Call,” Annie Ross’s “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea,” and
Babs Gonzales’s “The Boss Is Back” (his take on Charlie Parker’s “Ornithology”) are just a few of the 18 gems on this lighthearted but hard-swinging collection.

Ten of this set's 13 tracks were taken from shows in Milan and Amsterdam that were part of Louis Armstrong and the All-Star' series of 1955 concerts in Europe. The remaining 3 titles from 1956 were recorded in studios in the US.

Arthur -Art- Blakey, also known as Adbullah Ibn Buhaina, was an American jazz drummer and bandleader. Together with Kenny Clarke and Max Roach, he was one of the inventors of the modern bebop style of drumming and known as a powerful musician and a vital groover; his band of bluesy, funky hard bop was -and remains- profoundly influential on mainstream jazz.
